Children’s Water Safety – Pool

With summer’s arrival comes vacations to the pool or the beach. It’s important to educate families on water safety so that you and your kids can enjoy a fun, safe time near the water!

Before going to the pool… It is important to note that you are sharing the water and the germs in it with everyone. Protect yourself, your family, and your friends from germs by following these 4 simple steps:

  1. If you have diarrhea, stay out of the water. Diarrhea outbreaks are the ones most linked to the water.
  2. Shower before you get in the water. Prevent the spread of germs by making sure that you are clean before going into the water!
  3. Do not pee or poop in the water. Pool chemicals’ job is to kill germs. However, when pee, poop, sweat, and dirt rinse off our bodies and into the water, the chemicals break down these things rather than killing germs. This uses up the chemicals’ power, which means there is less to kill the germs!
  4. Do not swallow the water. Germs can spread when someone who is sick is in the water. Prevent sickness by not swallowing the water!
